The town of Best in the southern Netherlands invited Atelier NL to create a locally inspired color pallet for its future architectural and civil development. Based on carefully collected samples of sands, plants, and water from sources around the city, a unique array of local colors emerged. Browns, grays, blacks, and reds arose from local clays, soils, and sands. The vegetation of the town yielded a rich variety of greens. Tinted shades of water sources led to a pallet of whites. Atelier NL's field work in Best showcases the richness and variety of the natural colors found in this unique place - while providing a guiding standard for the future design of the city.
